After spending a significant amount of time in a shop
tirelessly trying on the half size up and down to make the best fitting
decision before sticking to one and getting it heat moulded to the shape of
your feet - you've got the right fitting socks and by now you've used your
boots enough times to safely say that you should have broken them in by now…yet that same ache accompanied by pins and needles makes an appearance halfway down
the slope each time?
If this doesn’t sound familiar to you, consider yourself one
of the lucky ones. For the rest of us, the reason for this could be due to your boots not adequately supporting the natural shape of the arches in your feet and therefore leading over-exertion which can cause aches and pains.
The good news is, this can easily be remedied with Superfeet insoles.
Without getting too technical, pronation is the way your
foot rolls inward when you walk. Some people have a neutral pronation whilst
others overpronate or underpronate.
Overpronators, also known as individuals with 'flat feet' will find their ankle rolling inwards when striking the floor. These will generally need more stabilising and supportive insoles.
Underpronators usually have high arches and their feet will tend to roll outwards more than inward when their foot strikes the floor. They will generally get along better with neutral cushioned shoes.
One way to tell which foot type you have is to look at the
shoes you wear most often, the side that wears the fastest could be an
indication.
Alternatively, when you step out of the shower and leave a footprint
on your bath mat you can compare it to the above image to get an idea of what type of foot you have.
Both over and under pronators are likely to experience muscle pains when running or doing other sports. Getting the right supports for your feet can alleviate a significant amount of pain, this of course applies to snowboarding as well.
