Magnetraction

Magnetraction is a sidecut which really is one of the most exciting leaps forward in snowboard R&D! Like a serrated knife, Magnetraction (magtek, mag, Magna) cuts through ice and gives you incredible grip all the way through your turn. Magnetraction also means that you can run your edges dull, which means less hook ups on rails and less catching into and out of turns.

So what is Magnetraction?

Magnetraction is  a collection of seven strategically located and sized ridges along the edge of your snowboard. The biggest ridges are between your feet where your balance is centred, adding maximum control and power where you need it most. The ridges outside your feet are smaller and less aggressive, providing tip and tail control, while maintaining freestyle freedom.

Originally Magnetraction was exclusively available from Mervin manufactured snowboards, but at long last, this technology has now been out sourced to other key brands.

Smokin snowboards are one brand who has really utilised the Magnetraction edge system in all of their snowboards. The Smokin KT-22 is probably one of the finest freeride snowboards that money can buy, and exclusively features Smokins take on Magtek! All smokin snowboards are handmade and feature floorless aspen wood cores, which give the boards incredible pop and last a lifetime - hence why they offer an industry leading 3 year warranty on all of their snowboards!
